I've carried a "trapper" style knife since I was knee high to a grass hopper. Schrade is my favorite steel but to my knowledge they don't make knives anymore. Once I put an edge on it I'll put it up against any knife you have! I have several buck knives and it's a fact that Schrade steel holds a better edge over any Buck.

For me, the trapper style is perfect for anything from cleaning a deer to skinning a coyote.

I carry my Spyderco Stainless Endura with me every day. It gets used for everything from opening and breaking down boxes at work to skinning deer. It holds an edge very well. The thing I like most about it is that it is small enough to carry in my pocket but do the stainless handles and the thickness of the blade it is up to heavy task such as prying apart the hip joint on deer.

Schrade is my favorite steel but to my knowledge they don't make knives anymore.

Schrade falls under Taylor Brands LLC these days. They manufacture knives for S&W and Schrade.

I carry an old Schrade Hunter and like has been said, it has the best metal, have ever seen in a knife. Don't know exactly how old it is, but when I bought it, had never seen one with a blade lock.

my wife just got me one of the outdoor edge swing blades for x-mas. interested to see how it works, seems pretty good for a knife under $50.

I've got two Schrade skinning knives and I use those. Among the thirty or so knives I've got I carry one of those when hunting, and I usually carry my Camillus AF survival knife. I've got one of the small KaBars, but it's an engraved retirement gift and I don't carry it, but I might get another one, because I think it would be an ideal all around hunting knife.

I carry a Spyderco Caly 3 with me at all times. I've owned a lot of knives in the last 50 years and this one has the best steel of all. VG-10 steel is hard to sharpen but stays sharp a long time.

If you looking for a great hunting knife, the type you pass down over the years. There are only 2 makers that I recommend. This year I got a thing for hunting knives. I picked up 2 beautiful, sharp as hell from 2 of the best makers. Both are hand made and hand forged. One for gutting and one for skinning. Gutting is a Chaser Made knife made by Mike Malosh the skinning knife is made by Jim Behring and Jim Behring Jr.
