Dropped a running (well, "lopping") bobcat at 75 yards about 4 Tuesday afternoon! Got a few pics on my phone, but, the longer I have this thing the more I am learning to HATE IT!! No flash, can't figure out how to send pics to my email... Just frustrating!
Got out about 2 again Tuesday afternoon. Fog started to roll in about 3, by 3:30 I couldn't see the bean field 100 yards away anymore and I was getting rained on pretty good. Rain kept coming, but not real hard, just steady. Watched a squirrel for a while; apparently, I wasn't the only one watching him! Out of the corner of my eye, I see this almost invisible form heading towards the squirrel, coming quick and kind of low. I brought the rifle up as I looked towards him, tracked a couple of steps, and popped him. He dropped like a stone! I thought I must've been hit him further forward, maybe a head shot, which I didn't want, but...
It was still early so I let him lie there while I waited for those coyotes from Monday to show up!! Do you know, within 5 minutes of my shot, that stupid squirrel was back!! What a dummy!! I should've let the cat eat first!!
No deer, no coyotes; at sundown, I went and retrieved the cat. Shot was pretty much perfect, nice and low, right where I wanted it; just behind the right leg, took the heart and both lungs, then the far shoulder, right in the ball socket. No wonder he dropped right there; no "engine room" left!
I'll skin him out and salt him down to see if I can get a decent rug out of him. Pretty cat.
I think being prepared was the difference. Instead of relaxing and "assuming" it was a fox I knew about, I was ready for new critters I was NOT going to let walk away!
Sure felt like a good day to me!
