has anyone seen a panther?
my ma seen one and a buddy of mine seen one in his back yard. he hauled ass getting in the house to get the shotgun and when he came back out it was running off into the woods.
And I saw tracks by my deer stand and they were HUGE. about 4-5 inches across and fairly deep for a cat. Since then I havent been in the woods without a gun
I was just checking to see if any of yall had.

I haven't personaly seen any but I have friends whom have sighted them within the past 12 months in Carteret, Jones, and Lenoir County. For all I know, it could be the same cat moving from area to area. I don't think there are very many around.

well my ma saw one after taking us to school one morning about 6 years ago and we also saw one about 8 years ago about 6 miles from where my ma seen one but this one was a black one. i know two or three people that have seen them on game cameras, one has a pic of two black ones together. so there are quite few i believe. when i asked a gamewarden if there were any she said there had been no sightings in the past 80 years, then i told her about people seeing them and she got really mad at me and tried to say i was being disrespectful. i believe they turned em loose and now are having to deal with the consequences. in one of the local papers a here while back it was admitted that we had a cougar. and all this was in north sampson county about five miles from the johnson county line. Not to mention my cousin that lives towards wilmington and bruswick told me that there was an animal that had been stealing dogs and goats in the area with enormous tracks like that of a large cat.

Panthers are like hen's teeth here. 100 years ago on the coast, there were plenty, but they got hunted out, and pushed out by "progress".

Guess I'll have to watch my back. Seems I'm makin a habit of stalking myself into sitations where predators are around. Are we allowed to kill them, if need be?

Shoot, not me, I can't afford $100,000 cat. If it leaves me alone, I'll leave it alone. If it tries to make me lunch  , then I think we all have a right to self defense. :x
Bottom line I guess is watch your six when stalking deer to make sure you're not also being stalked.
