While walking to my stand at about 5:40 this morning i heard something to my right when i stopped walking & pointed the light in the dirrection i saw a buck standing about ten feet from me. Of course he bolted immediately, but i thought it was odd that he didn't know i was their until i got that close. The whole time i was walking across the field i had my light on so you would think he knew i was their.

Not specifically that, but when hunting out west AND up north in NY have had deer come up to me within 10 yards and look. Some I knew about and some I DID NOT! Only saw tracks in the snow later on when they weren't there earlier. Deer are very inquisitive creatures especially in younger ages. You wanna see deer sign? Look at your food plot area right after its plowed and just planted!

I bet, would almost guarentee, that deer circled back behind you and was watching/listening to you from a distance. I watched one of the biggest bucks I'd seen todate from about a quarter mile away stomping around my truck 20 minutes after I left the truck. If you are trailing a deer, using a mouth call on a deer or see and spook one...turn around and look...really look n search. He might be trailing you!

i've walked in like you're talking about way before daylight and could see and hear deer in the fields on the way to the stand.a couple times i've even had deer somewhat follow me!get into the stand, get settled down and a few minutes later hear something under the stand just kind of millin around and then see the silhouette of a deer!they were never spooked, they just seemed to want to know what it was that just came by them and where did it go.....curiosity was killin them i guess.

yeah i could hear him behind & to the left of me before the sun came up. That was the direction he ran when i put the light on him. After the sun came up nothing. I sat their until about 9:30 & gave up. I figured nothing would be their after he ran off. I have walked up on deer before & they just ran when i was about 100 yards out, but this one was less that 10 feet. The light i use to get to the stand won't shine more than that. I've never been that close to a live deer before. I guess it seems so strange since it looked like he would have just stood their & let me pass had i not heard him & stopped walking.

shot a 6 point several years ago behind the house, he ran over to a farm that has been posted for years. I started tracking him and walked into about 9 does and was in arms length just staring at me made the hair stand up none of us knew which way to go, found my buck and went home
