Which calls should I get. I am new to this and there are so many to choose from? I see a lot of howlers but I haven't heard too many howls around here. I believe I should get a cottontail distress call but what else? Any info will help and which companies make quality calls?

I prefer the electronic calls with actual live animal sounds, not the synthesized sounds. Mustang has a FoxPro Fury that sounds pretty good.

Sweet. I'll work into the electronic calls. A little pricey for me right now so I will try mouth calls first.

I use Primos and Knight & Hale calls for almost everything. From Primos I use Catnip, and a Still mouse squeaker. From K&N I use Double Threat, Ultimate Predator 1 and the E-Z Howler. Also I use a Crankin' Crow by Quaker Boy. But on the other hand I have a Mini Phantom Digital Call, and a bunch of call sounds I have on my ipod.

Angel, how do you like the mini Phantom? I thought about getting the Primos Power Dogg after watching "The Truth V" . It seemed to be pretty good.

It's not super loud, they make an external speaker for 30 bucks but I think I can make one for cheaper. You call also buy different cards for it so you have a lot of options. It would make a good close range call. As far as the Power Dog, I love Primos calls. The only thing I know about it is what's on Calling all Coyotes 5. But you can go to Bass Pro and Cabelas and read reviews for it. Do you have a MP3 Player?

I put a ton of sounds on my ipod and it's always in the truck. Sometimes I will ride around base and play a howl or a crow sound and see what happens.

I have a mini phantom and got to where I just wouldn't use it because of the lack of volume. Using hand calls, I can get almost 3 times the volume when needed.
One of my recent acquisitions include a FoxPro Fury. I've only used it on 3 stands and one of those stands produced a Fox (which you can't shoot over an e-caller). You can expect a review on the Fury after another couple of months of use. Keep in mind though, other than the mini phantom, my e-caller experience has been limited to the Fury.

you can actually buy it from the store on 17 in Jacksonville. Item Number 277-1008c. Get you a patch cord to plug into your headphone jack on the ipod or mp3 and into the miniamp. then buy one of their pa speakers and plug into the aux speaker jack on the mini amp/speaker

Hey guys, I'm a beginning call maker and I would be happy to make some calls for anyone who wants one. Just send me a PM and I'll see what I can do to hook you up. I'll post some pics of my stuff as I go along.

Go into the stor on HWY 17 and look on the back left wall. I just saw one there about 4 days ago. If they act like idiots, tell them to check stock in their computer on item number 277-1008C. On the package it will say Amplifier/Speaker. I've only bought about 500 there in the past 3 years. I used to use the boards out of them for my calls. My newer calls look like this. I just don't supply the MP3 players anymore as most folks have one already.

Well I finished my e-caller today and was driving the neighborhood dogs nuts with it. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I have used both electronic and mouth calls. I have had luck with both methods but have had a bit better turn out with the real animal sounds.

I started varmit hunting last spring. Bought several mouth calls. Rabbit, coyote pup and quail. Tried them all for several months didn't do that well. Called in a fox and popped it. That was the extent of my success. Decided I wasn't good at calling so looked in to a e-caller. So expensive. Decided to give varmit hunting up. Then two weeks ago I got a flyer from Cabelas offering 30 bucks off any purchase. While looking fo something to buy I noticed they had the Johnny Stewart e-caller on sale. $80. I bought it. Drove to the farm and sat in the truck with the caller outside on the ground to give it a try. 10 minutes of listening to it and there came a coyote to the truck. Well I tried it another day and two more came in. Shot at one and missed it....caller works fine but my shooting is still off.
