I would look at the Stevens 200 in 30-06, Mossberg 100 ATR with the new Trigger, or the Marlin XL-7. All three of those are nice rifles. Should do quite well for you. They all can be found for around $300. I think they are nicer that the 770. Not that the 770 is bad I just think these other are nicer.

Do you know if Dicks or Eastern Outfitters carries them?

Dick's may? They carry a lot of Marlin Firearms. My wife used to work there. I always went in to handle the Firearms. If they don't have it they can order it for you. Then you can see if you like it or not. Eastern may have it as well. Wal-Mart (The Old One of Course) used to have Mossberg 100 ATR's all the time. I haven't checked lately. The Stevens was at Flatwoods a while back but again, I haven't checked lately. BTW Dick's carries the Rem. 770.

Yeah that's where I saw it. When did you wife work there?

If I remember correctly it was back from Oct 2006 to around Sept/October 2007. She worked up front first then went to apparel. I'll tell you what, I miss the discounts I used to get. I got my own discount card so I could get the discount without her there.

if you want to see a wide selection of guns take a trip to gander mnt in fayetteville. it's a good day trip for the guys but well worth it for gun shopping.
unlike women's "shoe shopping", you can never have too many guns. lol

Went to check them all out today (thanks alien). And I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Mossberg 100 ATR, which every other gun other than my glock is a Mossberg so what the hell. Great gun though.

Angel, if you do get it, make sure you get the one with the new LBA trigger. User adjustable down to 2 lbs. A lot like the Accutrigger, and the Pro-Fire trigger on the new Marlin XL-7 and now the XS-7 rifles.

The one I found is from last year so it doesn't have it, but oh well I like it.

Oh no I didn't mean don't buy that because it doesn't have it. I was just suggesting it. I like those rifles. They are well made it seems. I've never shot one but I've read some articles on them and they get good reviews. I wouldn't hesitate owning one. I am very happy with my Mossberg 500 12GA. So are you buying it or did you already?

I'm going to buy it, I looked at all the ones you suggested and two others and I liked the mossberg best. I have a 835 and my wifes 500 so I quess I'm sticking with the brand.

I have heard alotof good stuff about that mossberg 100atr as well. I know when i worked at wallyworld i sold a bunch of them and never heard any complaints. one guy actually told me he already had 3 diffrent calibers in it when he bought one from me, said he loved it and that it performed just as well as any remington he has ever had.
Myself i liked the way it felt but never actually shot one. I might buy one someday seems like a great rifle.

Yeah, actually in a recent Predator Xtreme Magazine the author of one of the articles said that his in .243 Win. is one of the most consistently accurate rifles he owns.

How do you like that Ruger P345? My buddy has one and I didn't like it.

I like it. There are things about it that could be improved but I have about 600 rounds through it with no hiccups at all. Very reliable. I really want a Springfield Armory 1911. We'll see.

I've got a Glock 22C and wouldn't trade it for any other pistol.

01-25-2009, 02:14 PM
Yeah I've always wanted a Glock 20 but the frip is too big for my liking. Now they came out with a Glock Slim frame so... MAYBE!!!! 10mm's are great. Also wouldn't mind the Glock 19. They are wonderful pistols.

The Remington 770 is an upgraded model 710.
The Remington 710 was a new design from Remington and was targeted at the hunter who wanted a hunting rifle but did not want to break the bank. Remington 710 came with a scope and had already been bore sighted add a box of ammo and it was ready to go. This was thought to appeal to the starter hunter.
The problem with some 710's was with the use of so many plastic parts that caused some parts to break or bind. The mag release on the 710 is also a weak point. Another major complaint was with the bolt being so stiff. The barrel of the 710 and 770 can never be replaced as they are pressed into place.
The 770 uses the same tech as the 710 with the exception of the bolt being redesigned for a smother action otherwise it is the same rifle. Remington cut corners on production and machining cost in an attempt to keep this rifle on a budget that would appeal to the occasional hunter.
I bought a 710 in 30/06 when they first hit the market. The price was the biggest selling point and I was able to get it for under $300. I was disapointed when I got it home and felt the bolt but continued to work the bolt back and forth and add lube from time to time while working it. After four years it works better but it is no model 700. Accuracy is good for a deer rifle. This is a rifle you do not mind toting all day in the rain. The trigger is stiff but breaks clean.
If I had to do it again I would avoid the 770 or the 710 and buy a Savage 110 for just a few dollars more and add a nice scope.
