has anybody sporterize a mosin nagant. i want to put a ati kit on it. can anyone provide me with any useful information. the kit i am looking at comes with the montecarlo stock and weaver mount kit with the bent bolt. from sportsman guide.i was wondering would i be able to put a regular scope on it then or would i still have to use a long eye relief.

It would still require the long eye relief scope if it is the mount that goes where the rear sight goes. Before you make any permanent modifications to it, make sure it is not anything rare. You can always pick up a PU scope and mount which would give you the shorter eye relief. The old bolt handle is cut off and the new (turned down) one is held on by a bolt. Me personally, if it is a numbers matching rifle, I would buy another bolt body to modify. They are usually about $25. There are a few places to get the original bolt handle turned down which cost around $45. Then again, I collect Mosin Nagants and other military surplus rifles and wouldn't sporterize any of them.

I would sporterize one if I had another. I have a Tula Hex receiver Mosin and I love it. If I had another I would sporterize one with the ATI stock. They are nice. and with the right hunting ammo, would be a fine hunter rifle. They also have barrels you can buy for them as well, such as the Finnish weight barrel.
