Pre-Rut

About when does the pre-rut kick into gear, I would think it would be around now. Any insight?

Too early just yet. It will be more like the 20th of October thru about the 28th of October. The peak should be around the full moon in November which is the 2nd. According to the Whitetail Institute, the peak for most of the east is usually around the second full moon after the fall equinox which was the 22nd of September. The first full moon will be October 4th and the second will be November 2nd. Definately will see some bucks seriously chasing does by the second week of rifle season.

One week and one day to go before rifle season. Black powder coming in most riki-tick. So is everyone ready? Rifles sighted in? Plots planted? Feeders feeding corn or what have you?

As a RN I have taken care of countless people. Everyone...EVERY SINGLE person I have met is allergic to flying lead! Epinephrine, benadryl, and solumedrol will not slow down or stop the outcome. The only cure for an allergic reaction to flying lead is all of us...you and I. Most important of all SAFETY!!! Safety orange, safety's on the rifle ON, no loading until in the stand, no finger in the trigger well OR shooting at ANYTHING until you VERIFY it truly is a deer, and last but not least? Safety harnesses on for those in a tree stand. The one listed right here on Eastern Carolina Predator Hunting forum is wonderful! If I hunted in a ladder stand I would have one. I do not bet my life on anything...
