Does anyone have a decent crossbow they are interested in parting with? I have had a crossbow hunting permit for about 5 years and have never bought one. After my neck surgery lasy tear, I am definitely out of the compound bow hunting scene. I would like to try one for accuracy before jumping off the limb and buying a new package. I also have a concealed carry permit so I am legal to buy one.

I have a Horton Stag Crossbow. The bow still shoots good. has no cracks in stock or limbs. Has a 150-175lb pull, not sure which.
Shoot me an email if your interested.

Hey; I'd like to take a look at the Forum Shoot, and maybe pick your brain a bit, too! I'm curious, but not yet committed. Hope you bring it.

Just wanted to add a few thoughts of mine on crossbow hunting......especially for those "purists" who seem to be so adamant in their opposition to the use of what is no more than a draw assisted horizontal bow.
I have hunted for a great number of years and deer hunting is my passion. I have harvested deer ( the politically correct term ) IE: KILLED them with every legal hunting weapon. Off season I try to get out and hunt them with a camera. I got a crossbow when physical problems reared their ugly head as I aged. One thing I noticed right off.......with every other weapon ( rifle, shotgun, pistol (even single shots) and recurve & compound bows.....I was able to get off a 2nd shot if necessary . That should tell you that I am an honest man.......I have missed and won't lie about it. Just TRY to do that with a crossbow....especially in a treestand....and you will see that it is a virtual impossibility with all the movement involved. That is point one. They are also NOISY....heavy....and demand every bit as much trigger squeeze and breathing control as a smoke pole to execute a proper shot.
I contend that the reason that archery hunters oppose them is the simple FEAR that the misconception by people that the crossbow is some simple miracle device will encourage more of them to be bought by people who would otherwise NOT archery hunt. This puts more people in the woods during archery season, and I do believe that is the REAL heart of the objection to crossbows. Current archery hunters like their solitude as it exists now, and fail to see that ANY disagreement among hunters....regardless of personal preferences.....plays right into the hands of the ANTIS.
And to those of you that argue about "primitive weapons".....I submit that unless you are hunting with flintlocks with iron sights only or with a longbow and wooden arrows there is hardly ANYTHING "primitive" about modern equipment. I welcome and will surely read anyone else's thoughts on the subject.

if crossbows were legal weapon for everybody the bow hunter worries would be justified(more hunters in the woods) because i would give it a try

To Mr. USMCRETMSGT, I totally agree. The thoughts that a crossbow give an "edge" IS a farce. I have one, NOT because I wanted to use one, but because I had to (health) and wanted to continue with the "solitude" you spoke so elloquently of. I DO NOT like the crossbow and if I could I would still be using a compound. I have basically quit going during the bow season now as I am THAT disappointed. LOL, yep....try to recock that thing while in a stand, heck fire, it's difficult enough on the ground. I have "taken" (your word..lol) deer with a compund, but only stuck one with a X-bow and watched him PULL THE BOLT OUT AND RUN.....only to live and grow bigger (as I have him on vid the following summer). Amazing huh..some wouldn't believe that a deer could pull out a bolt...I have it, and it bent from the angle and he tore one of the fletchings where he grabbed it with his mouth! Once again though....I DO agree with you on this matter.

Look guys, the recurve, and long bow guys back in the day made all the same arguments then about the compound bow when it came out. The traditional muzzle loading guys made the same arguments about inline muzzle loaders also. Lets all just hunt and have fun.
