View Full Version : H 29
Does the passing and implementation of H 29, meat that I can hunt hogs and coyote with any Centerfire Rifle or Shotgun, as long as any season is in?
Had a difference of opinion, of some Wildlife Employees.

H29 was killed. Read two posts down.
According to the second post down as you put it, under H29 it was adopted. Better check.

H29 was killed. If you take a look at the link to the NCWRC regs, you will see all changes made in red. There are none pertaining to the proposed changes in H29.

DKA1 if you read "all the new regulation and gameland laws for 09 and 2010" which is the second one down from this topic all the way through you will see that it was killed.
Sent an email to NCWRC concerning H29, Monday. Received an answer from Kenneth Everhart today, and H29 is alive and doing well. It is in fact law. Anyone that would like a copy of the email, send a copy of your email address and I will forward a copy of the email to you.

You might want to call the Colonel and pin him down on this one! The following is the text from the new Regs Booklet pertaining to Game Lands and nothing has changed from last year: Also, if you go to the General Assembly's website, there was no legislation passed that takes effect this year at all regarding H29. I would like a copy of the letter.
Thanks
Weapons
It is unlawful to discharge any weapon:
- from a vehicle,
- within 150 yards of any residence located on or adjacent to
game lands,
- within 150 yards of any game lands building or game lands
camping area (unless otherwise posted).
The 150-yard provision of this rule does not apply to the use of
archery equipment on Butner-Falls of Neuse and Jordan game lands.
During spring turkey season, it is unlawful to possess a rifle on
game lands, but bow-and-arrow may be used.
During closed seasons and closed hunting days on game birds
(waterfowl, doves, woodcock, snipe, rails, gallinules, moorhens,
coots, grouse, pheasant, quail, turkey) and game animals (deer, bear,
fox, rabbits, squirrels, boar, bobcats, opossum, raccoon), it is
unlawful to possess any firearm or bow and arrow readily available
for use. During that time in which fox season is the only open
season for a game animal, it is also unlawful to possess these
weapons. The following exceptions, however, should be noted:
- Possession is allowed on field-trial and designated target shooting
areas and in camping areas for defense of person or property.
- 22-caliber pistols with barrels, not greater than 7.5 inches in
length and shooting only short, long or long rifle ammunition,
may be carried as side arms on game lands at any time, except
by hunters during the special bow-and-arrow and muzzleloading
firearms deer hunting season.
- Individuals training dogs during closed season without fieldtrial
authorization are prohibited from carrying any weapon.
- A bow and fishing arrows may be possessed when used as a
licensed special fishing device in those waters, where such
use is authorized.
Weapons on Game Lands
It is unlawful to possess a firearm or bow and arrow on a game land at any time except:
1. During the open hunting seasons or hunting days for game birds (which are waterfowl, doves, woodcock; snipe, rails, gallinules, moorhens, coots, grouse, pheasant, quail and turkey) or game animals (which are deer, bear, rabbits, squirrels, wild boar, bobcats, opossum and raccoon) other than fox;
2. Unless the device is cased or not immediately available for use;
3. When possessed and used by persons participating in field trials on field trial areas;
4. When possessed and used on target shooting areas designated by the landowner;
5. When possessed in designated camping areas for defense of persons and property
However, .22 caliber pistols with barrels not greater than seven and one?half inches in length and shooting only short, long, or long rifle ammunition may be carried as side arms on game lands at any time other than by hunters during the special bow and arrow and muzzle?loading firearms deer hunting seasons and by individuals training dogs during closed season without field trial authorization.
Furthermore, only shotguns with any size shot and bow and arrow may be possessed during the big game season for turkey.
Previously, you were limited to a shotgun shell no larger than no. 4 and rifle or pistol no larger than .22 rimfire when the big game seasons were closed. By adopting H29, the Commission is allowing hunters to possess more powerful weapons during small game and migratory bird seasons, in addition to their possession during big game seasons, with the exception of turkey season (no handguns and no rifles). Be sure that it is an open day for hunting on the particular game lands - some are 6 day per week and some are 3 day per week.
I hope this helps clarify this rule change - it has caused a fair amount of confusion. If you have further specific questions let me know.

Subject: H 29
Does the passing of H 29 mean that anytime, one of the 21 Seasons listed in the regulation booklet, is in, that can use a Centerfire Rifle or Shotgun to hunt Feral Hogs or Coyote? Example, Dove season comes in Sept 5. Does that mean that I can go hog or coyote hunting on Gamelands with any Centerfire Rifle or Shotgun?
Thanks

Good research!
Based on the wording in the new digest, it appears a deliberate attempt was made to omit rather than change wording to eliminate making changes in RED. Also, this is apparently one of the new WRC's discretionary changes as there was no legislation passed according to the General Assembly web page to modify the regs during the 2009 sessions prior to July 1. They were clever enough however to slip in a charge now for the bonus doe tags!.
Wee still have some specific GL with restrictions, but the one that I was interested in was no restrictions. I printed a copy of the email and intend to keep it in my pocket, just in case.

Good luck with the GL hunting. If that's the only place I can hunt, I'll sell all my guns. Every time I've ever driven through any of the local ones, they were polluted with hunters. That's not correct. They were people carrying firearms.
I feel the same way about GL, but understand that this one has hogs, and want to take one. From what some of the fellows that live close to the GL said, hardly anyone hunting there, will see.
