It's taken me years to settle on this rifle and it is perfect for me and predator hunting. Short, light, detachable mag, mauser action, single set adjustable trigger and great reputation....can't beat it! For my "go to" calling rifle I wanted something short, light and accurate. The 527 fulfilled all those demands and more. It handles great, well balanced and is an outstanding shooter. Mine is a 204.
That being said, there were a few modifications that I deemed necessary. First mod I had done is the bolt handle. In order to use med or low rings the bolt handle needs to be milled down in order to clear the ocular lens. For this reason all 527 rifles come with high rings. So, I sent it off to James Calhoon http://www.jamescalhoon.com/ If I remember correctly it was $40 or so.
Second mod was the magazine. The factory magazine is a 5 round detachable magazine that protrudes from the stock. I like to use my calling rifle without a sling and having that magazine protruding doesn't make it conducive to carring it one handed. So, I sent the trigger guard/magazine well, magazine release and one magazine to Roy Bertalotto http://www.rvbprecision.com/articles/11/cz...zine-conversion (http://www.rvbprecision.com/articles/11/cz-527-rifle-magazine-conversion) and he milled down one magazine and the trigger guard to allow a shortened magazine to fit nearly flush. Most folks won't purchase a 527 because of the magazine protrusion. The price you pay to have a nearly flush mag is a 3 round mag vice 5 round HOWEVER, the standard 5 round mag (which is shown in the second pic) will still work. $65 if I rememeber right. This was before CZ came out with the 527 M1 American which already has a flush magazine.

I have a VX-III 3.5-10x40mm scope on it and I plan on sending the whole rifle off to get dipped in Mossy Oak Brush. Pics will be posted when the camo job is complete. The trigger is easy to adjust and the "set" function is nice for sighting in. The safety is nonstandard in that you push forward for safe, rearward for fire but that didn't take long to get used to.
I've had it two years now and have nearly 200 rounds through it. It shoots MOA or just under depending on my shooting abilities that day. So far I have dropped one coyote with it.
