Do any of you have experience in Traditional Black powder long rifles? I am thinking about getting a LH flint lock. I just have never fired one or even used a traditional, whether it be a cap lock or flint lock. I'm also interested in a Civil War era Rifled Musket, like the 1861 Springfield. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also looking at .50, .54 caliber.

A friend of mine has a cap and ball. He says it's fun to shoot but a pain in the ass at the same time. You pull the trigger then.........boom. And if you don't turn it on it side and give it a shack no boom. But it's still cool to play with.

Yeah, I think I am going to get a nice Flintlock, or percussion cap long rifle. I think it would be fun. Did you know that PA (which is where I am from) has a Flintlock only season, after Christmas. You have to use a Flintlock and you have to use primitive sights, no fiber optic, nothing.

Yeah there are a few places left that like to keep it "old school".

Some years back I was head over heels into black powder shooting. I started out with a Thompson Center Senica in .45. Then got into monthly shoots and wanted to be competetive. I shot with Moors Creek Longrifles for a while and not too long after bought a .45 Kentucky rifle from Dixie Gun Works. I wanted a flintlock bad and loved the way they looked and went and found a .58 caliber musket that looked like an early period indian trade gun. It was a great looking rifle but try as I did I could never shoot it well. The delay was throwing me off and I don't believe that I could have hit a horse at 100yds LOL. Anyway if you have never shot a flintlock you may do well. I had shot caplock for so long it may have had something to do with it. I will tell you this most folks I know that shoot flintlock love them.
