I want to hunt a bear

I've lived here almost 4 years now and i want to kill a bear. i have hunted in oklahoma since i could hold a rifle but i have never hunted here. so basicaly i'm looking for a bear hunting buddy to teach me the ropes of how to get a bear close enough to kill.

Well here in North Carolina you can't bait for them. You have to fool their noses, their ears, and their stomachs. There are a ton of scents on the market you can try. And as far as calls go, they make bear calls that sound like sows in heat or boars. Woods Wise makes a good one. Also you can use your predator calls to lure one in. I've posted a lot of info on this subject, read it and it will be enough to get you started.

One point of clarification for the new bear hunter. Don't call these animals with any type of electronic call. Illegal in North Carolina!

Thanks for throwing that it there. You can only use electronic calls for coyotes, everything else you have to use mouth calls. Just about any good "food source" mouth call will work. For more info read the calling bears post.

i have read all the post in the bear section, but its not the same as actually going out in the woods with some one who has hunted bear and learning from watching.

No it's not the same but knowledge is power. There are also dvds you can get to learn by also. I can only tell you what I have read and seen, as I have yet to take a bear. Hopefully I will have a little birthday luck day two of the season.
