What's your price range for a rifle?

What's your price range for a scope?

Heavy or light?

Long or short?

That'll help narrow your search.

Just how far away are you calling far when you are shooting at coyotes?

maybe 3 to 400 range for gun and 100 or so for optics!!! most of my shots have been 200 to 250+ yds. with a 270 thats why i need a predator gun!!!!

The thing there in my opinion is that you are shooting them too far out. Even with the .223, I wouldn't recommend taking too many 250 yard shots unless maybe the coyote was standing still and offered a broadside shot. However, if your optics and rifle are right, 200-250 yards is a gravy shot with a .270.

Also,
In the price range you mentioned, you'll be hard pressed to find a rifle in that category unless it is a Savage, and then it will need to be used to get in that range. I'd recommend you go over to Dick's and get you one of the Remington 700 SPS VTR for $549.00. It has a cheaper scope with the Remington Logo but is a Bushnell Banner scope. It also has a tactical stock with and extra sling stup for a bipod.

Try letting them come in a little closer. If I see one coming in I'll cease my calling unless they get hung up or need redirection. Once they get close enough give out a little bark but not until you are ready to shoot because once you give give yourself away you have about 2 second then they are turning on the afterburners.

Good camo, shade (if able) and motion control will pay dividends. I've had several come to within 10 yards of me in the daytime.

Several years ago I put a rig together with an H&R handy rifle in .223. The handy rifle was about as cheap as you could find at the time and when all was said and done it would shoot sub MOA at 100 yds. using a 3-9x40 Tasco scope.
