Do you think that a Bushnell Banner 6x24x40 will be a good scope for yote hunting? I will put it on a 243. I will mostly be hunting fields where I can get a fairly long shot. Most of my hunting will be back in Indiana.

The biggest thing dealing with scopes is what you are wanting, how far are you going to shoot, what you want to pay for it, what type of reticle, what size of objective, what type of elevation and windage adjustments, etc. And while some may disagree and there are some exceptions to the rule...I have found that to a point you do get what you pay for. So for me, the first question would be what I am willing to pay for, what can I afford, AND...how much apologizing am I going to have to do later. LOL!

I currently have this scope but have not been able to put it on my gun nor been able to hunt with it. I will only be hunting coyotes with it. I can get some real long shots in the places that I will be hunting and thats why I went with it. I am nostly wanting to know if you all feel that it might be over kill or good to go with me hunting allot of large fields.

I have a Banner on my slug barrel for my Mossberg 12 GA and it holds zero perfectly. I've fired 3 inch buckhammers through it and it is great. I love the Hornady SST slugs though! Super Super accurate.
Just sold a 243 with a 6x24x50MM Bushnell Banner, and it shot great. Talked to the fellow yesterday that bought it and he was bragging to other fellows, how accurate it was. Good scope for the money.

My experience has shown that a scope with a minimum of 6x is too much magnification in eastern NC. Unless you are hunting a large farm of big fields etc., anything that comes in to you inside of 75 yards is going to be difficult to locate and get a quick killing shot. Even then. it will not be in focus. These high power scopes work fine out west where you can see several hundred yards into sage and mesquite like in Texas and Oklahoma. I use a 2.8-12x44 on my coyote rifle.
