Ok..under state regulations, when shooting, you must be 150 feet from a dwelling. At some point, someone passed an ordinance in Onslow County, moving that line back to 500 feet. Now, if you look around and think about it, that negates a huge amount of areas that hae been hunted by shotgun, slug, and rifle for years and years.
I found this out blindside, when last weekend, my son and I were target shooting in the back of the family's house. We were 165 feet from the house, and the Sherriff's deputy came out and informed us it was 500 feet, and wrote me a warning.
As our family property is 19 acres, however, only 700 feet at it's widest, the county has effectively negated our ability to hunt on our own property.
The family will be contacting local farmers, and rural folks, to attempt to get signatures to propose an amendment to this ordinance, to allow for farmland. If anyone wants to jump on this bandwagon, or any suggestions, it would be greatly apreciated.
