I hunted it some last year with no luck. Was wondering if anyone else hunted New River, Verona Loop, or Sandy Run.

I went bear hunting twice in sandy run, but didn't see anything. What I did see were a lot of deer, turkey, and yote tracks. I also found a dead doe that was tore all to hell, my guess is someone shot her and the coyotes got to her first.

Uh...I've been retired longer than most Marines have been in AND I haven't hunted base in a long time. BUT back in the day the Air Station was really good. Then again there was a few good bow areas over behind the O club and at the end of the runway. At the same time if you could get across the back waters to the other side? That was even better. Uh...dunno if it is still open, but if you bow hunt? Camp Johnson in the back areas were wonderful as well. Most people do not get out enuff to see the small ponds that dot the base that bring game and DUCKS!!
Verona has/had always been the best of all areas on the base. Sandy Run had not been procured or open at the time, so cannot say...although I do hear it too is VERY good. In Verona, mostly inside the loop was good for deer and if you turn left at the gate and go up towards New River and the training area was also good. Look to the areas that have been closed alot during the year. Do not ever for one minute think because there is a lot of training going on in an area think that drives deer out. They get used to the training. This might be a moot point since we are 3 grand away from Pendleton, but back 35 years ago when I hunted Pendleton...not uncommon in the least when I was bow hunting that a deer could be taken at 5 to 7 yards as they looked at you.
And for those that have a mind to...look for blackberries. The base is a blackberry haven during July! After a burn? And/or logging? There can be big 1 to 2 acre patches of blackberries.

I think those are tank ranges. I had a buddy say the same thing but didn't kill anything out there.
