Anyone hunt turkey with a bow? I've never done it, but thinking about giving it a go...

Not in years (you guys know my history...), but it's a challenge you won't forget, whether you lug a bird out or not!! And with today's gear it may be more "do-able", who knows?

Been waiting for the threads to start up; found a roosting tree out behind me, near my deer stand, but it doesn't seem to be being used regularly. Hope to get out there a bit and see what I can hear anyway.

did you hunt with standard broadheads? or the turkey type big ol headhunter types? Trying to get a feel for it.

Last time I was able to bowhunt turkey was with a "regular" 100gr three blade, maybe an 1 1/4" diameter hole. I had one of my "retrievers" on with (if I recall correctly) about 50 yards of a light braided line (maybe 10 pound???) stacked in it. 2216 Easton Camo's. I built my arrows with a small split ring that would slide back to the fletch at release. Small snap tied on the braid with an open loop. The big wide and/or mechanical blades weren't on the market yet. 5" feather fletch was pretty much DEMANDED to get any kind of flight; if it was a rainy day (sometimes happens... lol), I'd switch to one of my backup 5" plastic fletched arrows, AND, I'd have to limit my range down to maybe 20 yards, shooting through a BIG hole.

you know, it's stories like that that make me thank the Archery Gods for advances in technology. I'm thinking I'm going to give it a go this year, got the bow out today, did a little shooting, tuning, etc. 40 yards, 6 arrows inside a 4" circle. Oughta be good enuff I think...
