I was driving down NC 903 today, not far from NC 55, not far from Seven Springs, and the largest coyote I have ever seen ran across in front of me out of an open field into another open field. It was about 8:30 am. I stopped in the field it ran into although I had already stopped and it was looking back, I looked back to my left from where the coyote came and there was another one standing there. Probably a female. The first coyote looked like he would go 70-75 pounds. He looked like a big German Shepherd. Had a beautiful coat. To bad I didn't have my rifle and was at the wrong place.

Nice.....you must a seen a coydog if he weighed that much.....The largest I have ever weighed was 44 pounds, a male, and considerably larger than any others I have killed...could have truly been a cross! Good info though...I called this morning until @8:30 (lol) with NO results. I wish you had called me then...lolol, I might have tried another "stand" somewhere else rather than coming home. I have been suspecting that they were breeding and it has affected their responses. Good Eye! I bet your heart beat changed???????

Could you guys tell what time you are seeing the coyotes.....late night, early morning....I imagine it is all in the dark, but I am curious to the time as it may help me establish some sort of pattern...Thanks! Mark

That's earlier than what I have been getting on the cams/bait piles.......usually 4:30ish. I guess they ae gonna have to "free up" those laws regarding the light hunting..if they really want a significant number of coyotes reduced. I sometimes question whether or not they really want them reduced in large quantities due to their depredation on deer numbers. Just a thought. Thanks for the time.

I might be wrong, but it looked 100% coyote. I sat in the road and looked at him about 50 yards away He was still standing there when I drove away. He just stood there and was waiting for his mate to catch up. His color was right and his head was all coyote. I agree that he was rather large.

Thanks Decoy.....You are the second person in the last week to say 8-9:00 am seeing random coyotes while driving. That makes it even EASIER for me to be lazy and then go calling too!!!! LOL

i was deer hunting with dogs and he was getting out of the way of the dogs
the area he crossed at smelled rank for a good while after he was gone
he was a little bigger than a medium sized dog
