I am looking for a place to take my 8 year old daughter out to shoot her Rossi Youth .22. She helped me replace the barrel and stock on my 10/22 and asked when I will be able to take her out so she can practice with hers. I feel bad bad cause I haven't taken her out since our last duty station in Texas. I have not shot at Flatwoods, but from what I have heard, I can't imagine subjecting her to the range nazi's running it. Does anybody know of any small ranges anywhere else in the Jacksonville area. Nothing fancy. All I need is about 25 yards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no.. Croatan is the only place close and target shooting is prohibited. A suggestion, Hubert VFD has a range across the street that they use for turkey shoots. If it's just a little .22, might they would allow you to take her over there and snap off a few. A phone call is easy enough, and the worst they can say is no.

you can shoot 22 rifle at the indoor gun range at the sportsmans lodge in j'ville. it cost $10 per person for all day monday thru friday and a 2 hr limit on weekends
it is 3yds to 25 yds
keep in mind it is a pistol range and can be pretty loud when its crowded

I have had mixed experiences at flatwoods (because of other shooters, not the range staff), and I've had nothing but good experiences at the sportsmana lodge. But everytime i go there it isnt crowded, i can definitely see how the noise factor would get annoying and make shooting difficult. I'd double up on ear pro to take the bite out of it , especially for a newer shooter. good luck.

Thanks for all the info. I have thought about sportmans lodge before to knock off some .40 and .357 ammo.
