I am looking for a place to shoot, but I really don't want to spend a lot of money doing so. With that said I am looking for someone who ownes some property who wouldn't mind if I came out to sight in my rifles and shotgun. I am a very mature shooter and will follow any rules that you may have. I will clean up after everyday I shoot. If anyone is interested in letting me shoot on there property please let me know at dickens1371@yahoo.com
Thanks

Avoid Flatwoods then. It's like $14 or $16 bucks, all day, but the RSO (I guess that's what you'd call em) treat you like you're an 8yr old child with a behavior problem. I realize they have a huge liability issue, but if I was a guy standing around with a bunch of people with firearms, I would at least be attentive and respectful. You never know when you're gonna get some loon out there who's testing out his shiny new murder weapon, and needs a moving target.
footnote:
If you do go to flatwoods, bring plenty of your own ammo. You don't want to pay their inflated prices. Also, bring your own hearing and eye protection. If you have a spotter scope, bring that too. They charge you for everything just about down to the grass.

They can charge you for just about everything because they are the only rifle range around Jacksonville, unless you go to Havelock.

i like the one in havelock. its a one guy show and hes really nice. i dont know about ammo prices but just dont rent any guns from him. he makes you buy his ammo and charges you a cleaning fee. ill never make that mistake again. but with that said i really enjoy shooting at B&R.

I don't go to Flatwoods anymore but when I used to go I'd call ahead of time and ask who was running the range that day. If a certain two individuals were running it that day then I wouldn't go. One rangemaster idiot put his hand on his open carry 1911 as if he was going to draw it on a guy just because he "crossed the red line" to pick up his water bottle all the while yelling at him like he was a recruit. I packed up my trash and left and haven't been back since. Not to mention their rediculously inflated, monopolized prices on both range time and products!
Flatwoods can pack sand!

Are you kidding? That is some way to treat a customer. I wonder if maybe they had had problems with the guy before or what. Even if they had maybe they should have invited him not to come back before it reached this level. I am just speculating because I can't understand why anyone would want to threaten and belittle a customer like that. I'm not surprised however considering how I was treated the last time I was at the shop. I've never even seen the range and don't plan on ever seeing it.

i have never shot at the range at flatwoods and i guess i never will!the wingnuts working the counter and in the store-gunshop made it somewhat clear to me they didn't want my business-they rather help the gentleman in the 3 piece suit then the bum in the t-shirt that was wanting to buy i rifle they had!the last time i went in flatwoods i said to myself it was my last and i haven't been there since and do not intend on ever going in there again! almost like a store in j'ville uh manxx.

Only my two cents worth and I may be way off base here, but I used to go to Flatwoods all the time seeing it was about 1 3/4 mile from my old home in Hubert. (I always went during the week and in the morning when NO ONE was shooting, but me.) And I know the two individuals you refer to Mustang. As sad as it is some people retire from the military and just never get out. Somehow, someway they think they are still in and can treat anyone the way they want due to their 'past rank.' Funny thing though.... what I learned is that after retirement you are reduced in rank to PVT or PFC. You are a private...a private civilian. And would get treated as such anywhere else they would go...
Plus the last I knew Flatwoods ranges were on borrowed time anyway. When the old owner sold everything to the new owner he sold all the land around it to developers and only the buildings, etc. to the new owner. Its why the bowshop closed as well as basically the reloading and BP shop. No one is going out there due to the treatment, prices, etc. So eventually all those areas where the ranges are will be homes and then eventually my guess is Flatwoods will go out of business. I won't drive 40miles to go there. And unfortunately we will no longer have a rifle range to go to unless you go to BnR near Havelock. The insurance fees for having a range must be overwhelmingly through the roof to say the least, so not sure what is going to happen then.

i purchased my sons first rifle"new england single shot 243" at flatwoods bout 10 yrs ago and a couple scopes after that
havnt been there in probably 7 or so years but it was a pretty good experience for me and my son but i always dealt with a guy named mike who i assumed was the owner at the time
never used the range so no input there
also purchased some rocky snake boots
did use their independant gunsmith in a out building to install a stud for a sling and he charged me 35.00 and that was the last time i used him
had millers do the same work on my sons new rifle (same as the one i have pump 270) 2yrs ago and he charged me 5.00 and done on a minutes notice 10 min b4 he was closing up

rick miller is the only one to go to if you ask me!i bought a h&r ultra slug gun 12 ga from a guy who had the wingnut at flatwoods do a trigger job for him, rick had to replace the trigger assembly in the gun because the wingnut ground it down and it would not fire!flatwoods gunsmith is as about as good as the two wingnuts working the gunshop the las time i was and ever will be in that store!
p.s.=i really and truelly hope one of the guys from flatwoods should see or hear about the negativity on this forum about there business and want to discuss it one day!

Not trying to "jump" anyone's thread, but there is a shooting range south of Goldsboro....the website is: www.encfiringrange.com. This range doesn't seem to have the problems mentioned in the above threads. Check out the website. I am a member since @ September and have been somewhat satisfied. My only real negative is the limited distance to shoot the long guns. He has 275-280 yards as a maximum distance, and has had "plans" (NO action yet) to put in a 400 yard range, which would be better suited for the long guns, in my opinion.

I posted this in another section but it fits this better,
I have stopped going to that "F" place even if it is one of the few ranges around. The last three times I was in there, I felt as if I was bothering the help. Not the owner but I'm sure he has gotten complaints . One time I was interested in a particular BP handgun. The first thing out of his mouth was "what do you want to see in there?" First it was a job, because the clerk had to close up one building to go to the BP building. Then when I saw a gun that I was interested in that was a "used trade in" I mentioned Cabelas had the same one new at a lesser price could he come down a little because I wanted to give my money to a local dealer. "No" I was told price as is, I mentioned that ok but you get a Free Range visit with the purchase so that would ofset my cost, he said "no thats only with new guns". He tells me "you know you have to pay shipping on that one from Cabelas" and I mentioned that yes and I would have to pay more in state tax there. I gave up and left. Next time same guy in the store , I needed 36 cal balls for the Cabelas gun. Again I was asked what I needed in the other building and got a "not agin" look. This time I said never mind and left. The range is a whole nother story, where some of the range masters treat eveyone as gun noobs at the range for the first time. Customer service is what you pay for in a Mom and Pop type store. This service is a dis service. When the economy is teetering on the edge for these individual shops, treat the customer right, no matter how he looks or is dressed. Guess I gotta trade in my Tatoo'd arms for that Armani.

Newhornet? Flatwoods only has a two hundred yard range and BnR is only 100...so the distance you mention would be wonderful. LOL! Gonna go check out the range you mentioned. It's just as far for me to go to Flatwoods now. In fact Neuse Sports Shop is closer to me. Let us know what you find out Buckhunter.
Problem with buying from a local Mom and Pop shop vs. online or Cabelas, etc. is buying power. Those online companies do not have overhead (i.e salaries, utilities, mortgages, etc.) or they have sheer numbers in sales revenues to command certain prices that are less expensive including shipping than local shops do.
I agree with you. I want to patronize local shops so when I need them they are there. Thats why I patronize one store specifically due to location, friendliness, and help. No, they do not have a range....ARGGH! And I do not mind paying that little extra. However, show me anyone who wouldn't take $50-$100 if I gave it to them. That is what you are doing for yourself if you are researching and shopping online. I, like you, have stricken many businesses in the area from my list to patronize due to continued treatment. You should NEVER get the treatment that you are a bother to them. You, the customer, is the reason they exist. (Then again they may treat you that way so you DON'T come back.)
Again....Flatwoods is prolly on the downslide. The only reason that people kept coming back was the range! Other than a few people...most own only one or two guns. And they last a lifetime or two or three! And most people do not shoot, but once or twice a year. So why go spend money other than to shoot? A $15-$20 range fee, add in the price of ammunition, and the gas and you have spent over $60-$75 at a minimum. You are right, people are VERY conscious about their money these days!

Hey Renegade if you do decide to check out ENC in Goldsboro let me know. It is only about 10 -15 minutes from my house. Heck we may be able to get a little group together.

I'd like that Dixieguns. Got some loads I wanna work up. Not sure where it is in Goldsboro, but bet I can find it. In fact...as old as I am....I bet I can sniff it out when I get in the area. Ah...the smell of Hoppes in the air....LOL!

Dixieguns....10-15 minutes.....it's JUST around the corner from you..I'd bet you could get there in 2 minutes....maybe three..lol I have been a member since last September. It costs, I think $100 a year. I got in on a "team signup" kinda' thing.....a bunch of us shot competition, NOT me, but some of the other guys,....it just sounded good for me to say that..LOLOLOL. Truly a couple of the others do shoot competitively in shoots. I really only use paper to work up loads and zero rifles. I do enjoy "testing" my distance shooting at times. I am gonna list that website again for those that didn't see it. If you do go, it may be beneficial for ya'll to get a small group together and see if he'll "cut ya'll a deal". Don't tell it, but we got in for $80. Her is the site. www.encfiringrange.com That'll give you the jist of what and how it operates. He was actually selling lifetime memberships last summer for @475.00 I think....You can ask if he still even sells them. Hope this helps... Heck fire, if ya'll decide to go, let me know and I'd try to meet ya'll out there.

FWIW...I live in New Bern and have shot at B & R and the fees are reasonable although there seem to be too many cease fires because of the way that folks stagger in which adds to your overall time spent.
I have since become an associate member of the Craven County Law Enforcement Officers Association. Dues are only $70 per YEAR and are reduced to $35 if you attend two workdays. They run cowboy shoots, have a range, large clubhouse/meeting room and run monthly meetings, some day /some evening that are complete with an offered meal prior to the meeting. Membership gets you a combination to the gate and the building and a schedule of range availability is posted online. If you are interested.....just do a search online for C C L E O A and visit the public website to check it out. You will have to have a CCP or a recent background check to be considered for membership.

That sounds VERY reasonable!!!!! It may also be MORE accessible to many of the board members than Goldsboro is.
