While I have nothing but respect for any organization that promotes hunting, I feel it important to monitor the actions that many organizations take that ultimately affect all of our hunting rights and opportunities. The following is worth reading regarding the move last year by the North Carolina Bow Hunters Association to block the new muzzle loader hunting season and the Crossbow issue. Everyone should follow this with great interest and submit your input online and vocally to the WRC and state legislature.

I like my idea better.....open the season with muzzleloader, give them the 2 weeks, go to gun season, close gun season on Jan 1, as usual, and open bow only from Jan 1, to Jan 31.

Catt,

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Bow hunters already have a longer season than any other method as they hunt exclusively for over a month before any firearm season begins and can continue throughout the firearm season giving them just short of 4 months of hunting opportunity. If the Sunday hunting law is changed, bow hunters will have the added opportunity of being the only group allowed to hunt on Sundays. I agree that the season should be extended thru the end of January but for all methods of hunting, not just bows. Now if you are proposing that bow hunters not be allowed to use a bow at all until January, this might be an option but I doubt it would get much support from the NCBA!

I'm sure it wouldn't fly any better than a bucket of concrete with the NCBA. I'm just wishing out loud. :)

On a realistic note, I think deer season as a whole starts a month too early. I'm of the opinion that it should run through the end of January. Now, from a conservation standpoint, that really wouldn't fly, for the worry of shooting mated does. However, if I were king it would play out as follows:

primitive seasons would start in October. divide it up 50/50 between archery and ML. then gun season, run to Dec 31, any deer, and bucks only from Jan 1-31.

i wish deer season came in the first of november and went out the first of march myself.we always get "my kind of hunting weather" after season goes out!any meens possible=gun,rifle,bow-arrow,muzzle loader whatever the hunter wanted.i would have loved to have been able to hunt the snow the other day!last time i hunted in snow i had 26 deer in a bean field at 4pm,ended up killing 3 does and a 7 pointer that evening!i love hunting the cold!!!!!!!!

I thought until the upcoming season, the daily limit was 2 deer??
I have heard alot of comments like the one doghunter has left above about bowhunters being able to hunt for 4 months, and that is correct. I am a bowhunter and I love it, but I am also a blackpowder, rifle, and shotgun hunter as well, and I enjoy each one very much. My point being, that eventhough it is legal, I don't consider it archery season once the firearms seasons start. I hunt with my bow until the last day of archery season, and then I pick up my ML. Then I pick up my rifle......you get the point. I'll abide by whatever changes take place, but I hope the general season structure stays the same. I would be all for an additional week of ML, but I would much rather it follow the current week than precede it.

I see your points MBH. I would prefer that the ML season extra week come after the first myself. In fact, It would suit me if the entire hunting season opened 2 weeks later and ran till January 15th.
