The ranch we were calling on has a bad hog problem (along with the surrounding area) and the owner is always asking me to work on the hog population. Every once in a while we'll run into them driving from stand to stand, usually around water. In all we probably saw over 300 hogs, most being piglets or yearlings. When I worked there several years ago I couldn't drive from one side of the ranch to the other without shooting 5 hogs. Each sow has anywhere between 8 and 18 piglets per litter and they have a litter every 3 months. They do a lot of damage to the grass, water lines, troughs, feeders and roads. Here are a few pics:

Below is a huge 300 lbs sow that I shot in the neck with my 204

Below is one of her piglets I shot for the rotisserie. You can see the pickup down in the bottom of the canyon that we shot from. Again, shot with my 204. They are good eatin animals.

In all, we shot around 15 or so hogs.

Don't let anyone tell you that you need "magnums" to anchor hogs. It doesn't matter what you use, shoot them in the neck or head and they drop every time. My personal opinion about "magnums" is the people using them are attempting to make up for a lack of marksmenship.

I wish we had that type of hunting up here. Not so though obviously. You guys put the hurt on some of those critters. I am glad to see you guys use your marksmanship rather than the newest zippy magnum.
