I've lived here for 47 years and a 25 mile variation in the track of this storm can mean the difference in nothing and a foot of snow! The NWS has been hiding the fact that they were aware of the possibility of this snow until today. Their forecast discussions have mentioned it all week but the official forecast was for sunny weather until they posted the now 70% probability tomorrow night. I've fooled around as an amatuer forecaster for the past 30 years and learned to read the models several years ago when getting my aviation weather certification. Currently, a couple of the models are outliers with a more northerly track and a much wetter senario. I would not be surprised to see 6 inches in the Richlands to Jacksonville corridor with more than that down into Pender county. In 1989, we were forecast to get 4 inches 2 days before Christmas. We got 34 inches in Richlands!

there you go bringing up 89 again!bad thing is it is cold enough and it is coming from where it doesn't need too!is usually problems when it does!just look at last year, was only supposed to get a dusting and we had 4"!they can not tell you what is goin to happen with the weather, the only thing they can tell you is"this is what we predict"!millions of dollars wasted,as usual.

I just saw on Fox News that, for the first time since we've been keeping weather records, there will be a measurable accumulation of snow in all fifty states. Even Hawaii has some on top of some of the mountains. Florida is getting some in the panhandle. Good thing we've got global warming or it would really be cold.

I saw the same thing, sb! Pretty strange for all the "Global Warming" we are causing, huh? Where is Al Gore now???

manxxcatt

actually, it is "global warming". It's backwards, but global warming causes global cooling. If global warming exists that is. It's due to changes in the flow of the Atlantic and Pacific from the polar regions.

Been snowing here for about a half hour. Not heavy, but steady. Looks pretty cool!

Had deer in my back field around 9 this morning and again around 4:30... Guess they were "hitting the grocery" last minute, too!!

Squirrels were running around like crazy!! (And tomorrow is the last day of their season!)

It'll be an "interesting" storm, for sure!

Hey DMAX,

I've been watching yankees show us how to drive in the snow for over 40 years. You look and see who's in the ditch tomorrow and read the license plates! Yankees know how to drive in the snow on roads that have been properly treated and graded, not around here! LOL!

I've got a 4X4 so driving in the snow and ice isn't a problem. However I have not found a good way to stop in snow and ice so I will be one of the ones driving like a grandma and keeping about 10 carlengths between me and the person in front of me. I just wish everyone else would do the same thing. The last ice we had about 2 weeks ago I ended up turning around and going home Sat morning because I almost got rearended twice.

Doghunter and Dixieguns: You BOTH make perfect points!

The roads around here are NOT built for this kind of weather. Fool's that think the roads are the same will surely be in the ditches by morning!!

4X4's are great (I have two...), but they do NOTHING to stop you once you get going 65 on a snow packed surface! Grandma might have a clue about what she is doing, after all!! CAUTION and watching out for the other guy is all that is going to get you where you are going... and back!

Growing up in Utah, best advice I can give....

Drive only as fast as you feel comfortable with... to He** with everyone wanting to go fast...

Be vigilant of idiots.

remember, you and your family are the most important things in your car. Da** the car.

When in doubt, pull over, assess the situation, make a decision. Better to take a few minutes and think, than get in trouble due to impetuousness.

and, all in all, (personal note from the old catt) play it safe.. I'd rather have you "wimp out" than attend another funeral.

well drove into the base this morning from the house, and back because they changed the duty roster last minute. and I counted 19 cars in the ditches and most of the ones with plates that I could see where from the north.
