Anybody reload for the .45 ACP? I'm looking for a few rounds of .45 ACP. If anybody reloads for them around the Jacksonville, NC area let me know. I would love to get some rounds. Nothing special. Just want some to shoot. Preferably 230 gr FMJ. They are getting quite expensive purchase anymore!!!

I'm going to get into reloading out of self defense. I bought a Colt Trooper .357 a few weeks ago and the cheapest SJHP ammo I could find was just under a dollar a round. I haven't owned a .357 since the early nineties, so I almost fell out.

With the prices of ammo these days it's hard not to reload. I reloaded several years ago but import ammo was cheap then and unless you were looking for a custom round reloading did not have the appeal to me that it does now. I am going to look for a press. I loaned out a rock chucker to a buddy that needs to come home along with a single stage Lee loader. I would like to reload some of the 6.8SPC brass that I have been collecting up.

Paul, I found someone who helped me out with this for the moment. Thank you for the offer though. I have enough to last for the time being.

Shadow? Welcome to ECPH. Haven't seen ya yet.

So why don't ya try your hand at reloading? Yes, there is the initial expense, but it is well worth it. Can you save money? Yes n no. LOL! Yes, if you really work hard at finding good deals on components. No because you will shoot more. Its the hazards of reloading.

You mentioned finding someone to reload for you. I dunno any one who really does that alot for people. To sell it takes a license for manufacturing. Second, it really isn't as cost effective to reload as it once was. Lots of components cost as much as new and you have to put them together. Rifle might be a bit different...but not so much handgun. And then what if you were reloading for someone, something occured and that other person came back and blamed you for it. People are just not gonna take the chance. So again I suggest getting into it yourself. It is rewarding....Just my 2 cents and humble opinion.

There are all sorts of ways to get into reloading from entry level to top of the line equipment. When it comes to handgun stuff? For the most part, IMHO, you end up paying for speed/ease of reloading. A single stage press will be a slower than a progressive press. For the most part single stage presses are less expensive and will do both handgun and rifle. When it comes to rifle? I ain't really sure. LOL! Yes, most progressives will do both handgun and rifle. Accuracy is a big factor when it comes down to rifle stuff...but unless you are trying to squeeze the last little bit of accuracy out of something, benchrest shooting, you are shooting long distances? Good quality stuff can be had for less than top of the line. It comes down to what you are wanting and what you are willing to pay. It is that initial outlay of funds for the equipment that gets most people. Trying to convince yourself or Mama can be somewhat intimidating. I personally would suggest a kit of some sort that comes with the press, powder scales, reloading books, powder dribbler, etc. than buying it piece meal. I would suggest researching and the MANY, MANY numerous websites online. It really is easy to do, is a great hobby, and you are rewarded when you shoot. However, again it is all up to you. If you only shoot once or twice a year it might not be worth it. And while I no longer shoot a lot.....it was cost prohibitive if you do shoot alot to buy new.

I will say this though...I have had the same equipment, save a set of dies here or there that I WANTED to upgrade for the last 20 years. (I will advise you get carbide handgun dies though! WIll save you a HEEP of mess!) But anyway, all I need is minute of deer. Brass will last you quite a long time and there are enuff people who trash it you can save there...so it comes down to primers, powder, and bullets which are your expendables. And if you watch closely you can get larger lots of components for less prices.

Shadow? If there is anything I can help you with please let me know.
