Hello everyone I've got a good question that I know someone here will have an answer to. My brother-in-law is looking into purchasing a handgun from someone he knows that lives in Virgina. I know the laws as far as buying from someone in state but I'm not sure about an out of state purchase. I'm not really sure but I'm thinking that the seller is going to have to ship the handgun to an FFL in NC and then the buyer is going to have to do the transfer at the dealer in NC. Is this correct?

That is correct Dixie. Your brother-in-law will have to have the gun shipped to an FFL and he will have to have a concealed carry or handgun purchase permit.

Doghunter, I figured that you would be the one to chime in on this. I believe you probably know more about firearm laws in general than most lawyers.

I wouldn't say that Dixie but the fact of the matter is, they are not complicated. Too many people rely on heresay rather than reading the laws for themselves. You know this is true with many different subjects. The NC Firearms laws are posted here on the forum and are also available online. I have no more knowledge of Firearm Laws than anyone else who can read! I just like to be in the know on matters that are important to me.:fighting0010:

so,soo true!you hear a lot of things sometimes and can only wonder if people actually believe what he/she said.i found out a long time ago you are better to find out what information you can on the subject at hand and not take "cousin bob's" word for it!
