I live in the NC mountains about as different as you eastern guys. Elevation 3000-3800 feet wooded hills with 20-35degree slopes and some rolling to steep pastures.

Coyotes have been around the area for 5 or more years but mostly about a mile away. Recently they have extended their range in to my yard and vicinity.
I'm new to coyote hunting and have a 12 ga o/u with removable tubes. I intend to use 3 inch #4 and 1 buck out to 60 yards. I have ordered a coyote killer choke from Carlsons and have other choke tubes from skeet through extra full
I also have 22 mag and plan on using CCI 40 grain JHP out to 100 yards MAX

My questions are:
Does my setup look OK? I can't afford a heavier caliber rifle.
Do you place a rifle shot similar to deer?

Just make sure you have a good down wind veiw, and stay as still as possible..as far as shooting them"i made this mistake"don'tshoot behind the front leg, shoot straight above the leg... draw imaginary line down from head and up from leg where these lines cross is your vital areas on canines...Good luck and be patient,it's not as easy as one would think, these animals are probably the smartest in the woods...
