Yes, I would think it would be fine for bear at a close in range. I would use a good JSP or JHP round. The newer bonded core rounds are showing good promise but so are Lead hard casts. they are great.

I don't won't to hijack your thread Alien but I don't think you should ever shoot a bear with a hollow point with any gun! Bears are just too dense boned for decent penetration with a hollow point in my opinion. Just a plain ole soft point 200 grain ball of lead is better than the hollow point. Just my two cents worth.

Nah your right. JHP rounds would not be the best. I the JSP or hard cast lead rounds would work well!
