I saw a coyote in my back yard a few weeks ago and heard about another one being shot last weekend not too far down the creek from where I saw this one. I stopped by Dick's in North Raleigh and picked up a Johnny Stewart Attractor Model 2. What is the best way to us the call, do I let a series play and wait or keep letting it play for a while?
Thanks,
G

Welcome Grapevine!
I would recommend giving about a 3-4 minute calling series followed by about a 5 minute wait. Repeat the sequence for a total of about a 20 minute setup and move on a couple hundred yards for another setup if youhave no luck. Over calling is the biggest mistake most hunters make.

Thanks, Saturday afternoon I was doing just what you recommended. the only thing I appeared to call in was two blue jays and a sparrow hawk. Thr blur jsyd lsnfrf high in thr tree that the call was placed near and hopped down branches until they were just above the call and looked it over real good, squawked a couple of times then flew off. The little hawk gluided by very low very soon after the jays left. I was using the distressed cottontail call. I'll try again as soon as I have a chance.

How long was your set?

I was set up for about an hour. I was sitting in one of my ladder stands and the call was attached to a low tree branch about 25 yads from the stand. the stand is located in a little cut just off a 15 acre pasture. The pasture was not cut this fall and has 2-3 ft broom straw in most of it.

Good news if you see one you have bunches more. The Johnny Stewarts I have used have always worked great.

I have the same electronic call. The first time I used it I was sitting in the truck and a coyote came to fifty feet of the vehicle. The next time I used it I was in my deer stand and two coyotes came. One ran across the opening in front of me and the other stood behind me, barked and howled. The third time I used it in the same tree stand, the coyote came the same distance as before but would not come closer. About 50 yards away in some brush and no shot available. Should I keep trying the SPOT?? I was using the coyote/fox fight call.
I meant to type SPOT not sport.....
I read that you can educate coyotes to your calling spot...is that why they are not coming on in???

Sounds like you are having good results.
last Sunday morning at 4:08AM I was awaken by some of the most fuss I'd ever heard just below my bedroom window. to make a long story short, two black dogs/coyotes (??) were in the process of killing a fox. When it got light enough to see, I found a dead red fox in my front yard. I found out that the fox fight noise is loud. I'm looking forward to trying my call again.
