Here is some additional info on the T-Rex bullet.

The .577 Tyrannosaur or .577 T-rex is a type of cartridge (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/wiki/Cartridge_(firearms)) developed by A-Square (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/wiki/A-Square) in 1993 for the hunting of large game (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/wiki/Trophy_hunting) in Africa. The .577 (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/wiki/.577) contains a .585-inch (14.9 mm) diameter 750-grain (49 g) Monolithic Solid Projectile which when fired moves at 2,460 ft/s (750 m/s) producing 10,180 foot-pounds force (13,800 J) of muzzle energy (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/wiki/Muzzle_energy).[1] (http://www.eastcarolinapredatorhunting.com/#cite_note-0) The production model from A-square is based on their Hannibal rifle platform.[

I know this is Eastern Carolina PREDATOR Hunting forum for predators of Eastern Carolina this will be a big squeeze to fit here since Lions are predators from Africa....

And if you go to the AccurateReloading webforums you can see people building ALL MANNER of Dangerous Game Rifles (DGR). But at what point is it overkill? Oh, thats right...there is a .600OK (OverKill) listed as a rifle. Got to admit though it is a very interesting video to say the least.

From Wikipedia:

The .600 Overkill cartridge is a hunting cartridge designed to fit the CZ-550 action, by American Hunting Rifles.

The .600 Overkill was designed by Robert Garnick of Las Vegas, Nevada. The case is based on the .600 Nitro Express, with a belt added for headspacing and the rim rebated to fit with that of the .505 Gibbs. It was intended to be the largest bullet that was able to fit in the CZ-550, and was designed specifically for the purpose of elephant hunting. The CZ-550 is able to fit 2 cartridges, with slight alterations. With solid brass bullets, the .600 overkill is able to penetrate 6 feet (1.8 m) into solid oak.

The .600 Overkill fires a 900-grain (58 g) bullet at more than 2,400 ft/s (730 m/s), At this level of power, as the bullet spins down the barrel, the rifle is torqued in the opposite direction, often twisting the rifle out of the shooter's hand. Recoil in standard-weight hunting rifles (10 lbs. or less) is far beyond what most shooters will tolerate.

Cartridges of this size and power are reserved for hunting dangerous game such as lions and cape buffalo, where deep penetration of tough tissue and high energy transfer are essential. Even in this context, many hunters prefer to use a smaller cartridge with more manageable recoil and reserve super-caliber rifles as an emergency backup (often carried by guides) to stop charging game.

I would certainly just use a Barrett or AIAW riffle for that. I know what you are saying, however, as I sit and watch Versus this morning they are hunting Cape Buffalo and I just have no desire to hunt the darn things. I really don't. The animals that the North American Continent has to offer it really great. There are so many that many people don't ever get a chance to hunt all of them. That .600OK is just down right nasty. I can't imagine firing those rifles without a Brake on. I'll take a Barrett in either .338Lapua (98B), .416 Barrett (82A1), .50BMG (82A1) or the AI series of rifles. Good post though. Thanks Doghunter and Renegade.

the only thing i say about using the t-rex is you better make the first one count!be kinda hard to get up off the ground, find your rifle and chamber another round before the cape buffalo or elephant you just made mad with the first shot tramples you to death!that video was crazy!i wonder if the recoil dislocated or broke anyones shoulder?

I know this thread is to showcase the strange out of this world rifles that people build and shoot, but the 375 Holland and Holland has been doing it well for years. There are .40cals and .50 cals that have as well. Buckhunter is right. What good does it do to have a rifle in a DGH situation and you have to get that second shot off at 20yards? It has always been my contention that our forefathers and people before us did it well before all the new stuff came out. Sales! But without experimenters where would we be today?

Alien, I'd just like to have the money for a Barrett in any of those calibers. But for most of us we have no need for such a beast: T-Rex, OK, .50BMG, Chey-Tac, etc.
