And I bet you are well liked too!
Ok...have to admit that if I was back in SWMO or NW AR hunting the next few days in cold with the snow on the ground and I COULD see the bunny I would take a .22LR. But them little rascals are typically hunkered down inside some small wood patch somewhere and when take off? I never could hit one on the run without my .410. And I KNOW there are bunnies around here. But after 5 years of looking for them I have only seen two in the deer woods. I suspect they fall prey more often out here to fox, coyotes, and birds of prey more often than not. I just haven't figured out why there seems to be more bunnies back in MO than here? Does anyone have any guesses or better yet, facts?

plenty of bugs bunnys here, they just blend in really well with NC cover. I'm from Utah originally, myself. The snowfall really sets off the color, makes it somewhat easier to find the little boogers. And, I gotta agree, once you get that snow, they hunker up tight.
Maybe one day, we grab the scatterguns and go look us some rabbits Renegade.

I'm in the mountains and we have both the mountain and eastern cottontails. I have not hunted them as the populations are heavily predatored. Probably from the hawks, owls, and yotes in the area. I see some in the summer but by this time of the winter there are only an occasional track. During the past weeks from the Christmas snowfall I have only seen 3 sets of tracks. There is sufficient cover for them but still very marginal populations.
I figure if I become another predator there may be even fewer. I never thought the rabbit could be this low.

We've been slammed with rabbits at where I live this year. I've got a beagle that was my fiance's pet and is now mine, but I've never hunted her. Hunting with dogs, I'd use my Stevens 16 ga. to bring back memories of my childhood. I like hunting small game with a singleshot. But for rabbits that seem to love coming up to the dog pen and driving my dogs crazy, I'll probably use my Westernfield BA .22. Haven't shot any this season. Might slay some this afternoon. I've seen up to seven around the house at one time.

Very, very few around Wayne County...I have had to go to Lenoir and Duplin to find rabbits. Too many predators around here I would think. Lots of good habitat but they just don't catch on. Ran the beagles today in LaGrange and had several good races.

I've got a couple domestic wabbits that someone let go and are making a mess of my yard and flowerbeds.... time to try out the HMR finally.
