Anyone have a good deer stew crock pot recipe? I know someone who makes a top notch stew but he wont give up his recipe. (His screen name begins with Dog and ends with Hunter!)

Come off of some of that deer meat you're holding hostage next week and I'll show you how to cook one!

This is pretty simple and works in a crock pot or on the stove. I generally, cut the meat into 1 inch chunks and very lightly dredge it in seasoned flour (salt, pepper garlic powder, Tony Chacheres') then brown it in hot olive oil. Remove the meat and drain on a paper towel. Add some chopped onion to the drippings and sautee until golden brown, then add a beer or 1 cup red wine and 2 cups water, garlic and rubbed sage to taste. Put the meat back in and add your potatoes and carrots. Simmer on low heat until everything is tender.
For the crock pot you could skip frying the meat and sauteeing the onions to keep it really simple. It just gives it a richer flavor. I prefer the flavor of the red wine in deer stew to the beer but either works fine.
Hope this helps.
